What if my kids don’t like him?

Most of the Garter Brides felt very strongly that their new relationship wouldn’t have gone far if it hadn’t worked for their children. Linda says, “As the mother of two very young girls, I was concerned about getting remarried. I was pleasantly surprised and comforted when I discovered how relaxed and in control Tom was with my kids, because he’d already raised two children of his own from his previous marriage. I also felt guilty that he’d have to deal with little ones—and eventually teenagers—all over again. But he convinced me that the kids and I were a package deal, and he was just fine with it.”

When Nathalie met Max after a difficult divorce, she was gun-shy about getting involved with anyone again and was very protective of her three-year-old daughter. If a man wasn’t going to be good to her daughter, it was a deal breaker. “One night the three of us went out to dinner. My daughter had stomach problems at the time and would vomit without warning. I went to the ladies’ room and when I came back she had vomited all over Max. Max didn’t flinch and was gently cleaning her up. That clinched it for me.”
